Now, let's move on to today's topic:
How to wax your board and why this step is crucial for your surfing experience.
Imagine being on the beach, with waves rolling toward the horizon. The excitement in the air is palpable, and you are ready for a playful time in the ocean. But before you dive into surfing, it’s important to prepare your board and give it a fresh, gripping surface to maximize your experience on the water.
A good grip is essential for you to enjoy every moment in the water. The combination of sand and water can make it easy to slip off the board, especially when transitioning from lying down to standing up. With a longboard, you can also perform cross steps to optimize speed and movement with the wave. This is where wax comes in – it is the key
to creating the surface you need.
Surf wax is a fantastic product that works wonders for your surfboard. It can be made from both natural and synthetic ingredients. Synthetic waxes are often a blend of paraffin and beeswax, while natural waxes may contain beeswax, plant oils like coconut or hemp oil, and pine resin. You can even make your own surf wax, but it’s important that it is suitable
for the right water temperature.
You’ll receive a guide for water temperatures when you join our surf community.
Before you start waxing your board, ensure that it is clean from old wax, and apply a base coat over the entire surface – from nose to tail. Once that’s done, it’s time to choose the right wax based on the water temperature. In warmer water, you’ll need a harder wax that will last throughout your surfing session. You don’t want to have to paddle in to re-wax your board in the middle of your adventure, so make sure you have a good grip at every pop-up.
In summary, proper waxing of your surfboard is a critical factor in maximizing your surfing experience. By understanding the importance of grip and selecting the right wax for your specific water temperature, you can ensure that every session in
the waves is both safe and enjoyable.
